Fall Classic Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Audience Members In the US, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The exciting extended contest that saw the Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined over 50 million spectators in the United States, Canada, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball reported this is the most-watched Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable game averaged 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 Game 7 between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This represents a sixteen percent improvement compared to the previous Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, the fourth game was seventh, Game 5 came in 8th, and Game 3 finished in 13th position.

International Audience Numbers

In Canada, the game drew 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English-language program in Canada since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game began at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – drew 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Totals and Trends

The full seven-game World Series drew over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen audience growth for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the complete American viewership was 16.1M. The overall World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and Fox’s strongest playoff ratings since 2017.

Major League Baseball stated that the World Series was televised in over 200 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen different tongues.
